All works in Richter's Strip series, which he has continued since 2011, are based on a digital image of his 1990 painting "Abstraktes Bild [CR: 724-4]." A full-scale image of the original painting, measuring 92 × 126 cm, is divided vertically in half, then divided in half again. This process is repeated twelve times to produce 4,096 (2¹²) strips, each approximately 0.3 mm wide. These narrow strips are repeatedly mirrored and recombined, extending their colors into horizontal bands. A specific section of the resulting image is then selected to compose each Strip work. The museum’s collection also includes "Abstraktes Bild (P1) (1990/2014)," an editioned print based on "Abstraktes Bild [CR: 724-4]."
