Born in 1918, Raku Kakunyû XIV was the eldest son of Raku Seinyû XIII and succeeded as the fourteenth head of the family. His work is noted for bringing a modern sensibility to the traditional forms of Raku tea bowls. He died in 1980. His modern sensibility appears both in tightly constructed black Raku bowls and in red Raku works whose spare forms heighten complex kiln effects.
