明代に作られた古い机を二本脚に再構成している。自立しない上に、天板が谷のように大きく折れ曲がり物を置くことすらままならない。かつて机であったという以外に実用性のない物体と化している。文化大革命の時代に古い文化や思想を破壊した中国。本作はよく見れば破壊ではない。明代の職人技と同じ古い技術をわざわざ用いて皮肉たっぷりに無用の机を作るのだ。文化・表現への抑圧に対する作家の怒りが込められている。
