HAROLD ANCART
Harold Ancart was born in Brussels (Belgium) in 1980. He graduated with an MFA from École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre (Brussels) in 2007. In addition to painting landscapes featuring icebergs, flowers, and trees, he has produced numerous works with a sculptural approach. Influenced by comic books and illustration from a young age, he learned a great deal from the works of other pioneering artists from Brussels, like James Ensor and Léon Spilliaert. Thereafter, the artist turned his attention to the American Abstract Expressionists. Ancart’s work with these figures as his spiritual forebears has been highly acclaimed in museum exhibitions and international shows. He is featured in the collections of major institutions around the world, including those of Foundation Beyeler (Basel), Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Hirshhorn Museum (Washington, D.C.), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Guggenheim (New York), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York).
