YUKO MOHRI
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan in 1980. Mohri graduated from the Department of Information Design at Tama Art University in 2004 and completed her MA in Intermedia Art at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006. While there are phenomena in fields such as engineering and physics that can be theoretically explained, many are not visualized. Phenomena such as magnetic force, light, and sound, can be sensed but are difficult to be seen or touched. Mohri visualizes these invisible phenomena with various objects in a bricolage-like manner. Her installations, which use what seems to be demonstrated in a roundabout way to show the fact that something invisible is indeed happening there, reshape the narrative of space and dominate the place with a new order. In recent years, Mohri has been actively involved in international exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at Japan House (São Paulo, 2021), The 14th Gwangju Biennale (Korea, 2023), and the 23rd Biennale of Sydney (2022). In 2024, Mohri served as the representative artist for the Japan Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia). Her works are in the collections of M+ (Hong Kong), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Towada Art Center, and others.
